Mission Statement
| Johnstown Java & Jams Coffeehouse, Inc. (or 3Js) supports and encourages youth through the arts, strengthens the community, and provides a teen center that is a safe, drug and alcohol-free environment.
3Js accomplishes its mission in two ways: • Providing a safe, supervised environment for youth to engage in pro-social activities • Offering a positive alternative to mainstream music and higher risk activities |
Program Summary
| A primary focus at 3Js is to make available the opportunity to develop an interest in the musical arts through weekend concerts and showcase local talent at open mic nights. Concerts provide outreach to band members, teens and adults and are a unique way in which 3Js contributes to the participation in the cultural arts and the personal development of young people in Northern Colorado. |

Client Story
| Paul, 17, came to us three years ago with no direction for his future - although he is actually very bright - and had no realistic concept of work or social skills. Paul has volunteered every day for the last three years doing any job necessary from taking out the trash to helping bands load and set up their equipment. Our Executive Director had faith in Paul when no one else believed in him. He taught him how to be in the public eye with proper social skills and showed him a strong work ethic through example…things that were lacking in Paul’s life. Paul is now one of our most versatile volunteers and able to work as a coffee barista or a sound technician.
Although Paul had no musical experience, our Executive Director got him involved in playing the drums and he is now the Drum Captain in his school band, has his own rock band, and most importantly, recently won a college music scholarship. Paul has had 12 Universities scout him for his musical abilities. Paul continues to thrive and is now a role model and mentoring other kids as well! Four years ago, Paul was headed down the wrong path and had he been left in his previous situation with no one to recognize his potential, he would not have the confidence he needed to succeed. Paul has blossomed into a very nice young man, and is just one example of how we invest in our kids from middle school through high school and see the impact 3Js makes in their lives long-term. |
